The Community invests 2.3 million euros in Aguilas to improve communications between the Region and the province of Almeria (01/12/2009)

The Department removed a black dot with the opening of a new traffic roundabout at the intersection of roads linking the Eagles with Vera and The Cocón.

The Minister of Public Works and Planning, José Ballesta, accompanied by the mayor of Eagle, Juan Ramirez, today visited the works that run the autonomous region in this county to improve communications between the Region of Murcia and Almeria, and involving an investment of 2.3 billion euros.

The Minister today put the first stone of the refurbishment, improvement and widening of the road Calarreona (RM-333), a performance in which the regional government will invest 1.6 million euros and will involve the construction of three roundabouts and a bike path two feet wide in the middle section of the road, to promote sustainable mobility in the municipality.

The existing road will be extended with two 3.5 meter lanes in each direction, which will facilitate travel to the beaches of Aguilas.

In addition, said the Minister José Ballesta, "through this action will improve road safety and conditions of a pathway that not only serves the municipality drivers aquiline, but also part of the roads that allow access to our region from Andalusia, so it is an act of special interest to the Autonomous Community

Also, the Minister inaugurated a new gazebo in the town and the intersection of RM-333, which communicates with the municipality of Vera, with the RM-D18, which leads to the hamlet of El Cocón.

This is an action which, said José Ballesta, "involves the removal of a black spot in an area that has a high intensity of vehicles, particularly in summer, with more than 10,000 vehicles a day."

The works have involved the renovation of the old intersection to turn it into a single square of 56 meters inner diameter and 72 outside diameter, with two lanes from four meters wide.

It has also undertaken the construction of the bypass to the hamlet of El Cocón, with two lanes of 3.5 meters, and two shortcuts to reduce traffic congestion at the roundabout.

The work, which has received an investment of 705,690 euros, has been complemented by signage, lighting and lighting of the gazebo.

"This action, which will help ensure greater road safety to the thousands of visitors and neighbors, complements the works of the road Calarreona.

So with these two works the citizens will enjoy more comfortable ride, agile and secure, providing access to the beaches of Aguilas and improving communications in the Region of Murcia, Almería province, "concluded Jose Ballesta.
