The initiative stems from the importance of active participation of the elderly in our society because it is a sector that has great potential in many ways.

To cite a few, say pensioners and retirees have enough skills and knowledge to offer, as their work and personal life has taught them a lot so volunteering as advisers or consultants in social action programs, is of inestimable value besides having the maturity to have a serious responsibility and commitment to stable in the exercise of their voluntary work can participate in achieving long-term social activities in a project.

Another advantage of the participation of older people in volunteering, is to combat social exclusion of their group through an active role in social activities in your area also helps to improve the quality of life of these people , and that helping others feel useful, and give recognition to those obtained over the lives, feelings, rewarding and provides a sense of satisfaction in life.

Internationally, it has also been given special attention and importance of older volunteers, one of the most significant, is that of the United Nations Principles for the elderly, in resolution 46/91 the General Assembly of December 16, 1991, which cites the principle that refers to a volunteer: "Older persons should be able to seek and develop opportunities for community service, and act as volunteers in positions appropriate to their interests and abilities ".

Given that 75% of people over 65 are healthy and active, as it verifies the United Nations, and the vision of the society of retirement, has gone from being regarded as a state of uselessness and inactivity to be a great open door to the opportunity to do what in the past was not for lack of time, among which is the possibility of helping other people in social disadvantage leads to the conclusion that this group age of citizens is a powerful mechanism important in the processes of social development of volunteering.
