The regional government promotes the Ruta del Barrio de los Pescadores Eagles to strengthen tourism in the municipality (09/02/2015)

Juan Carlos Ruiz highlights the impact of tourism on local employment of Eagles, where catering contracts in 2014 grew more than 27 percent over the previous year

The Minister of Industry, Tourism, Enterprise and Innovation, Juan Carlos Ruiz, said today that the Ruta del Barrio de los Pescadores Eagles "adds value to one of the traditional neighborhoods of the city at a time, moreover, that can not be beat, since its opening coincides with the celebration of the first Carnival held with the declaration of International Tourist Interest ".

The head of Tourism, which opened today the tourist route along the government delegate, Joaquin Bascuñana, and the mayor of Eagle, Bartolome Hernandez, said that "in this way, the city has a tourist attraction to offer 400,000 people which is scheduled to visit the town over the 15 days that will last the Carnival ".

Juan Carlos Ruiz explained that to value the route, which starts from the Plaza del Dr. Fortun ('Placetón') and reaches the Sagrera mill has been restored grain mill mid-nineteenth and have built a series of viewpoints, creating open and gardens.

The Minister stressed "the spectacular views from this location has Levante Bay".

The works, framed in Tourism Competitiveness Plan 'Eagles, Sea and Fisheries' involves an overall investment of 714,575 euros and have been financed by the Ministry of Industry, the Ministry of Tourism and the City of Eagle.

The mill houses these days the exhibition 'Eagles Esparto and mask', where paper costumes, carnival night and the characters of the great feast of the town are shown, along with utensils esparto and explanatory panels on the importance of this plant had for the town's economy.

Tourism as an economic engine

Ruiz noted the importance of tourism "as an economic engine of Eagles", stressing the "impact that tourism activities have on local employment".

In this regard, he added that "members of Social Security in the various tourist activities were as of December 10,191 workers, representing 2.9 percent more than in 2013."

He also said that contracts registered in Aguilas only in hotels during 2014 was 3,732, representing an increase of 27.3 percent over the previous year.

Finally, the Minister of Tourism said "the good work being done by the City of Eagle, with its mayor at the head, to improve their tourism", noting that the city, with 35 beaches spread across 28 kilometers of coastline, got eight blue flags in 2014, three more than in 2013, "which shows the bet being made to provide quality service to our tourists."
