Social Policy spent over € 850,000 to assist persons with disabilities in the town of Aguilas (11/09/2014)

In total, in the region there are 3,630 beds in various medical resources to care for people with intellectual, mental and physical disability

The regional government, through the Directorate General of People with Disability Action Instituto Murciano (IMAS), under the Ministry of Health and Social Policy, allocates 857,553 euros to fund 70 places to disability care and keep in Aguilas 124 spaces in the Center for Child Development and Early Intervention.

The Minister of Health and Social Policy, Catherine Lorenzo, provided these data on the actions that are being developed in the field of disability care in this county during his visit today to professionals and users of the Association of Parents of Students Alumnae and Occupational Center of Mentally Handicapped (URCI) Eagles.

In this act, Lorenzo was accompanied by Managing Director of IMAS, Leopoldo Navarro;

by the CEO of the Disabled IMAS, John Brown;

and the mayor of Eagle, Bartolomé Hernández.

Specifically, explained the minister, the IMAS 390,831 euros subsidizes 35 seats on the Occupational Center URCI Mentally Handicapped in which personal development services, integration, physical therapy and prevention are offered, among others.

Also, other leisure-therapy workshops, gardening or computer are performed, for example.

In this center, where it serves people over 16 years with an intellectual disability equal to or greater than 33 percent grade, work ten professionals to provide specialized care with individual character and adapted to the circumstances of each user .

After visiting the premises of the center, Lorenzo praised the work of professionals and said "this is a great social resource to continue to support the group of disabled Eagles and promote socio-labor conciliation and respite for their loved close ".

The Directorate General of Persons with Disabilities this year almost IMAS invests 65.5 million euros to fund 3,630 places in social resources as day centers, residential homes or sheltered housing, among others, to meet with persons with intellectual, mental and physical disabilities.

Thus, of the 3,630 seats there working, 2,207 are in day centers, 1,151 residences, 108 in sheltered housing, 152 in the Service for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy (SEPAP) and 12 in the Promotion Center Personal Autonomy (CEPAP).

Of the 170 new positions planned for 2014 have already been created 89, covered the 3,630 operational seats today, and work to allocate 1,487,918 euros to promote the creation of another 81 new jobs by the end of the year in force .

The Minister of Health and Social Policy reiterated the commitment of the regional government to support the consolidation of services to meet the group of persons with disabilities and concluded that "the objective is to ensure access to services for the disabled."
