Eagles held yesterday Esparto Local Day (08/08/2013)

Numerous visitors aquiline and reminisced last night at the Plaza of Spain, the significance that the esparto for the town, since its founding in the eighteenth century to the mid twentieth time that the town came to have 30 factories and 18 cookers of this plant steppe, positioning itself as one of the main sources of income for the inhabitants.

The mayor of Eagle, Bartolome Hernandez, and the mayor of Celebration, Clara Valverde, along with the homecoming queen, Carmen Soto and esparto scholar, Juan Hernandez, inaugurated a program of events organized to celebrate the Day of Esparto Local .

The date was not chosen randomly, but gave effect to the agreement reached last plenary April 25, designating August 7 for your remembrance, since such a day as this, in 2008, the last representative working aquiline esparto, Diego Roman Galvez, stopped for retirement from the company known as "The Moris".

During the opening ceremony in the presence of different councilors of the municipal corporation, the head of the local executive gave Roman a certificate of recognition for their professional work and both extended the tribute to all esparteros aquiline.

In his speech, Bartolome Hernandez said the City of Eagle studying and creating a museum that collects esparto history in the city.

All present were treated to an exhibition, which included photographs of Juan Hernandez and a model for Antonio Mena, on the origins and the manufacturing process of esparto, from collection in the field when you spin it, through the cooker and subsequent drying, the chopping of the harness or raking to get the fiber, until the final product was used by farmers, fishermen and stonemasons, giving multiple applications.

There was also an exhibition on the development of raked esparto rope, who performed the Bernardo spinners Asensio and "The Moris", while several local artisans and presented their work and recincho pleita concocted.

The day concluded with a concentration of "Mussonas" one of the characters Eagles Carnival 15 years ago was recovered from this ancient feast and whose clothing is made mainly of Esparto.

The program of events will end this weekend, with a market that meet various tasks performed by esparteros and other local artisans.

It will take place from 9 to 11 August at the Plaza de Alfonso Escámez in hours 19-22 hours.
