The PSOE shows how beneficial it is and the socialist government's investment in the desalination of Eagles (18/06/2012)

The regional deputy socialist Manuel Soler showed that the water supply to the land of Lorca from the desalination plant Eagles "will cushion the shortage in the next drought."

In his opinion, the investment of around 250 million euros of the previous Socialist government of Spain "will be very useful to enhance Guadalentín agriculture, especially in areas that do not have funding from the Tajo-Segura".

Soler, who stressed that "all indications are that we have a drought," explained Guadalentín aquifers have been overexploited and are totally exhausted, dry wells, and irrigation water runs out of bound.

"The arrival of water from Lorca Eagles will help to address shortages in much of this drought which approaches will bring to the Region of Murcia, and primarily to those areas of irrigation consolidated."

Water quality and good price

The Socialist deputy explained that, by mixing desalinated water (which is the best quality) to the wells of the aquifer, water will get an optimal crop Guadalentín Valley.

Moreover, the price, but varies by region (0.36 euros plus VAT per m3 for irrigation Lorca, for example) is less than that paid by farmers for irrigation established, that in some areas even exceeds 0.5 euros/m3.

"We would like to water more economically, but today an aquifer with poorer water quality are paying more expensive," he added.

Manuel Soler therefore considered "good news" that you were able to begin watering in such shortage areas through the Community of Irrigators has arbitrated a temporary system of use of existing pipelines to ship water in the districts more raft near the Cerro Colorado (The Bell, The Wire, and Purias Almendricos).

"However, what is needed is that the Government of Spain to accept the proposal submitted by the PSOE in the city of Lorca and the Regional Assembly, and was passed unanimously, to include in the Economic Recovery Plan of Lorca installing a pipeline from the desalination of Aguilas to the irrigation areas of Guadalentín, so you can get the water needed-without having to raise the price, when the plant is fully operational, "he concluded.
