The Eagles Archaeological Museum displays a model of the process of esparto (18/04/2012)

The model, made by Antonio Mena Caparros will be on display for several months in the projection room of the museum.

This morning has been presented at the Archaeological Museum of Eagles, a model that shows the process of esparto, a job linked to the town since its founding in the eighteenth century and has remained active until the mid twentieth century, reaching be a major source of income for its inhabitants.

The presentation ceremony has been attended by the Councillor for Culture and Heritage, Francisco Miguel Martinez, the director of the Archaeological Museum, Juan de Dios Hernández, and the author of the model, Mena Antonio Caparros, including municipal authorities, as well as several guests and aquiline who were involved in the production of esparto in the town, as is the case of Pedro Jiménez Román "The Mori", who along with his cousins: Peter Bartolo, Diego and Ramon Roman Galvez, spent a good part of their lives to this profession.

During the event, Councillor for Culture and Heritage has highlighted the importance of this steppe plant for the local economy, indicating that a large sample are evident esparto cookers that even today can be spotted in different areas of our municipality, familiar territory in Roman times as "Campus Espartarius", so Eagles deserves a museum of esparto and it is working and the Municipal Government Team.

For his part, Antonio Mena, who was linked to the industry of esparto from 7 to 17 years old, said he has spent a year in the making of the model, the operator at your leisure.

Mena has wanted to clarify that with her, has tried to reflect the entire manufacturing process esparto, from collection in the field when spin it, through the boiler and subsequent drying, cut into the deck or raking to get fiber, to achieve the final product, which was used by farmers, fishermen and masons, giving multiple applications.

The model on display in the projection room of the archaeological museum for several months, pudiéndola visit on regular hours open to the public.
