The Eagles desalination / Guadalentín, an example of energy saving (05/10/2010)

The desalination plant Eagles / Guadalentín in Murcia, is in advanced stage of construction by Acuamed.

This is one of the largest facilities of seawater desalination by reverse osmosis in the world, has been designed for maximum production capacity 180,000 m3/day in the first phase and 210,000 m3/day in the second.

The water produced will be used both human consumption and irrigation.

In this sense, Gabriela Mañueco, deputy Acuamed Construction, said in his speech at the conference dedicated to desalination as part of the Eighth Congress of the Spanish Association of Desalination and Water Reuse (AEDyR) held in Barcelona, which have been used in the plant the most advanced techniques for both their design to construction.

These innovations include those applied to energy saving.

Thus, the reduction of energy consumption "has been achieved globally," said Mañueco.

In this regard, said the representative of Acuamed, the desalination plant "combines the latest technologies for treatment and energy recovery. On the one hand all treatment processes can be isolated to use energy strictly necessary. On the other hand have been installed in each frame a group of energy recovery from the last generation to minimize the energy consumed in the reverse osmosis.

Besides being one of the largest worldwide, the desalination plant has some peculiarities, such as the type and size of the filters, as well as false bottoms and double layer in the filters, the configuration of a double step comply with the limitation of a boron content of less than 5mg / l, the use of segmented pumps and variable frequency to minimize power consumption of the plant.

This point is reinforced by the versatility of both the treatment plant and the distribution to different users based on their needs.

The VIII Congress AEDYR, combines, on 28, 29, 30 September and 1 October, some of the most recognized national and international experts in the field of desalination and water reuse.

It is aimed at those involved in the water sector and serves as a forum for dialogue and communication between the various groups that operate in this important market.

It was opened on the first day, devoted to desalination, by Marta Moren, Director General of Water Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, Imma Mayol, Deputy Mayor of Barcelona and responsible for the Environment, Manuel Hernández, director of the Catalan de l'Aigua and Manuel Rubio, president of AEDyR ..
