On January 26, the World Environmental Education Day is celebrated, which originated in 1975, the year in which the International Seminar on Environmental Education was organized in Belgrade, with the participation of experts from more than 70 countries.

In this event, the principles of environmental education were established within the framework of United Nations programs.

And as a result, the Belgrade Charter was published, in which the fundamental demands of environmental education are reflected, whose goals are: To form a world population aware and concerned with the environment and associated problems, and that has knowledge, aptitude , attitude, motivation and commitment to work individually and collectively in the search for solutions to existing problems and to prevent new ones.

"For many years the environment was seen as an inexhaustible source of resources, but today it is recognized that there is a delicate balance between the environment and man, so if he is not aware of his actions it can have serious consequences for all the inhabitants of the planet.

Environmental education creates awareness in all people about the importance of caring for the environment, protecting the flora and fauna of their localities and joining global initiatives ", said the Councilor for Education Environmental, Ginés Desiderio Navarro.

The main objectives of Environmental Education are: Make people aware and sensitized with respect to environmental problems in their surroundings, so that they can seek, protect and provide solutions to them Educate society so that they understand what the environment is, its importance and the delicate balance that exists between man and nature.

Sow environmental values.

Help social groups to develop the necessary skills to seek solutions to ecological problems in their immediate surroundings.

Keeping statistics of reality in environmental matters and teaching people to evaluate the evolution of the process, either to show improvement or to detect a problem that is getting out of hand.

Encourage the participation of society in the search for solutions to environmental problems since they have the duty to demand that governments take measures.
