[Recovered a complete Andalusian jug from the 16th century in the surroundings of Isla del Fraile (15/12/2020)

Agents of the Special Group of Underwater Activities of the Civil Guard together with members of the Estela Diving Club recently participated in the recovery of a complete piece of ceramic in the surroundings of Isla del Fraile.

The discovery, which occurred by chance, took place in one of the dives of the aquiline divers Javier Hern ndez Espinosa and Jos Mart nez Navarro, who, after viewing the piece at shallow depth, informed the municipal archaeologist, Juan de Dios Hern ndez.

The bottoms in which the piece was located are formed by oceanic posidonia and everything indicates that after a storm of the east with the sea in the background, it was uncovered and detached from the ground.

To the discovery of this piece, currently in the study phase, but preliminarily cataloged as an Andalusian jug dated between the 16th and 17th centuries, is added that of a piece of iron, possibly a culverin (firearm), from the 16th century.

It should be noted, as stated by the Council of Heritage of the City of Aguilas, that both findings "are clearly isolated elements typical of the anchors since no evidence of other remains has been found in the immediate environment." function { ;(, , {});}
