The mayor announces the creation of a Technical Scientific Committee to monitor COVID in the municipality (25/08/2020)

The mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, appeared this morning before the media to report on the epidemiological situation in the town.

Moreno has begun his intervention by pointing out that "as of today the data we have tells us about seven active cases, although - he pointed out - this figure has not been included in the reports that Public Health sends twice to the City Councils.

week".

In this sense, the first mayor has appealed to the regional institution to which she has requested "speed, speed and maximum transparency when transferring the reports to the municipalities, in this case to Águilas." Moreno has pointed out that the seven active cases have their focus, mainly, in three companies or work centers in the town but that none of them has been considered an outbreak by the Public Health Directorate.

The mayor explained that "from minute one of knowing this news I have been in contact with all these work centers and they have all acted according to the Public Health protocol, immediately isolating direct contacts from positive ones waiting of PCR tests and so far, in the case of the Railroad Residence, the tests carried out, and there are already more than fifty, have been negative ".

On this matter, Moreno has asked citizens to respect those affected, remembering that "we are talking about a disease that can affect anyone." The first mayor has also announced that for greater coordination and data management a Scientific Technical Committee will be created, made up of the coordinators of the Health Centers, the coordinator of the SUAP, the management of Area III of Health, the mayor of Health and the mayor herself. Finally, he wanted to respond to all the voices that in recent months have accused the City Council of hiding data regarding the positives in the town, something that - he has assured - "is completely false.

This City Council has transferred the data that have been provided through health agencies, always adjusting to the official figures that were reported to us.

I also want to respond to those who point out that there are many positives from citizens who currently occupy their second residences in Águilas, clarifying that this is a fact that does not we can already know that the positives always appear in the place where they are registered; however, we must remember that geographic mobility has been allowed for months and this City Council has no powers to prevent such mobility ".
