After two intense days of measurements and free practice, the moment of truth arrives for the Spanish championship, with 4 days for the individual title (July 29 and 30 and August 1 and 2) and 1 for the National Team Championship ( July 31st) The Juan Montiel Nautical-Sports Association is already prepared for the official start of the Optimist 2020 Spanish Championship and the National Championship for Autonomous Teams.
After two intense days of material control and measurements, the official pistol shot is given to the two national events.
The first of them will have 4 days of competition, with the individual title at stake: individual (July 29 and 30 and August 1 and 2), while the Autonomy Team championship will be held on Friday July 31 . Two days that have been marked by the strong heat and by security measures at all access controls in the areas enabled for sailors and to which only authorized personnel have access. All the sailors, after entering the established area, take their temperature.
From that moment and until the end of the day, the sailors remain in the area where their boat and material are located and, although they can leave, they must return to comply with all the safety and health protocols, temperature taking, hand hygiene and material. After the registration section was officially closed, the Águilas national team presented with 139 sailors from 9 Autonomous Communities: Catalonia, the Canary Islands, the Basque Country, the Community of Madrid, Andalusia, Galicia, the Balearic Islands, the Valencian Community and the Region of Murcia. The weather forecasts aim to be good in the first two, with winds from the East component and with an intensity that can reach 12-13 knots.
By Friday, with the National Teams at stake, the intensity of the wind seems to be somewhat lower. On the other hand, in the late evening of Tuesday, the Opening Ceremony of the Optimist 2020 Spanish Championship and the Autonomy Team Championships took place.
An act that took place in the facilities of the Puerto Deportivo Juan Montiel behind closed doors and attended by Mari Carmen Moreno, Mayor of Águilas; the councilor for Sports, Cristóbal Casado; Juan Francisco Martínez, General Director of ITREM; Kiko Igual, Team Leader of the Optimist National Team and coach of the Catalan sailing team; Carlos Torrado, president of the Competition Committee of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and president of the Sailing Federation of the Valencian Community and Arturo García, President of the Sailing Federation of the Region of Murcia and Juan Fco.
