The City Council announces a reorganization in mobility to offer more pedestrian areas in the promenades and downtown area (07/05/2020)

The development of an Urban Mobility Plan for Eagles is one of the areas in which the City Council has been working in recent years.

This mobility model, where the pedestrian is the protagonist, has been reinforced in recent weeks by the Covid-19 pandemic and, especially, by the distancing recommendations necessary to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

"In this de-escalation to what has been called the new normality, it is essential to maintain a physical distance in our movements and for this it is necessary to have more pedestrianized spaces that avoid crowds in our movements," said the mayor, Mari Carmen Moreno. That has been the reason that has led the City Council of Águilas, in coordination with the Local Police, to redesign the mobility of different areas of the town with a series of modifications in traffic and parking that will come into effect from next Saturday. Downtown area: - Delete the car parks on Conde Aranda street (from Conde Aranda corner with Juan Carlos I to C / Floridablanca) in order to allocate said area to pedestrian traffic. - Delete car parks on the right bank of C / Carlos III in order to allocate said area to pedestrian traffic. Paseo de Parra (from Monument to the Railway to Auditorium): - Delete parking spaces throughout the section so that the traffic lane attached to the promenade becomes pedestrian.

This measure will not influence road traffic, which will continue to be allowed in both directions. - Section from the auditorium to IES Alfonso Escámez, eliminate parking to widen the promenade. Paseo de la Constitución: - Delete the parking line attached to the Paseo de la Constitución to give it to pedestrians from Juan Carlos I to the intersection with Severo Montalvo. - West area: In Paseo de la Constitución- section from the wooden bridge to the Calle de la Piedad crossing (Menorcan ice cream shop) - only authorized passage for residents.
