The PP asks the Government of Spain to allow the city of Águilas to use its surplus to act against the consequences of this health crisis (08/04/2020)

The Popular Municipal Group in the City Council of guilas has demanded that the Government of Spain allow the rules to be relaxed so that the council can use its surplus to implement measures or services that allow it to act against the consequences of this crisis and revitalize the local economy, always in coordination with the Autonomous Community and the State.

Reverte has stressed that the Government of Spain is studying "confiscating" the surplus generated in 2019, as well as all the economic resources that the city council has in banking entities.

"The State cannot use the exceptional powers conferred by the state of alarm to violate constitutional precepts, so it must respect and guarantee the autonomy that the Spanish Constitution and the laws grant to municipalities for the management of their own resources" Reverte has qualified.

In this sense, the PP spokesperson has stressed that "the municipalities cannot be the lifeline for a central government, which since 2018, has been unable to approve some General State Budgets and which has denied the City Council the income that corresponded to our city council by law derived from lVA of December 2017 ".

The PP has presented a motion that will be debated in the next plenary session through which it also urges that if the Government intends to modify any of the laws that affect autonomy, that Congress validate said modifications.

However, the popular mayor has been convinced that this motion will be approved unanimously by all political groups, considering that "the right to decide how to use the remnants generated by our city council must be claimed."
