Murcia, January 2, 2020. The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia has investigated a driver as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety, after being detected on the RM-11 road (Lorca-Águilas), known as the highway Eagles, circulating at almost double the maximum speed allowed for that route.

The action has taken place within the framework of the speed control devices established, in a coordinated manner, by the Provincial Traffic Headquarters of Murcia and the Civil Guard.

The incident took place on the morning of last Monday, December 30, when agents of the Traffic Detachment of the Civil Guard of Lorca carried out a specific speed control on the RM-11 road (Lorca-Aguilas), known as the highway of Eagles.

In the control, the civil guards detected the circulation of a large displacement vehicle at 192 km / h, in a section limited to 100 km / h, exceeding in almost double the maximum speed allowed for the road.

The agents identified their driver, a male, Spanish, 40 years old and neighbor of Águilas who was investigated as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety, for driving a motor vehicle at a speed exceeding 80 km / hour in intercity and was made available to the Court of instruction number 3 of Lorca (Murcia).

These types of crimes are included in article 379 of the Criminal Code and can be punished alternately with prison sentences of 3 to 6 months, a fine of 6 to 12 months, or work for the benefit of the community for 31 to 90 days, and In any case, with deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than 1 to 4 years.

The establishment of speed controls by the Civil Guard Traffic Group is framed within the objectives of the Road Safety Strategy adopted by the DGT for the 2011-2020 decade, as one of the priorities aimed at reducing accidents. on our roads, especially on conventional or secondary roads, given that excessive speed, on the one hand, greatly increases the risk of traffic accidents and, on the other, are factors that directly affect mortality and severity of the injuries suffered.

In this regard, without prejudice to the specific speed control campaigns established annually by the General Directorate of Traffic, the Benemérita recalls that the speed control activity takes place 24 hours a day, especially in those sections and points Road that, due to its special characteristics, implies an accident risk or is prone to commit this type of infraction, appealing to drivers so that they are aware of the importance of respecting the established speed limitations, to improve their own safety and that of the rest.

Third case in the last ten days

This is the fourth case of the year 2019 and the third detected last December, of drivers who have been identified and investigated for a crime against road safety, when they circulated at double the permitted speed.
