The Eagles Mental Health Association (AFEMAC) inaugurates its new headquarters (23/12/2019)

More than a hundred friends, collaborators and partners gathered on Friday December 13 at the facilities of the Eagles Mental Health Association (AFEMAC) to accompany their members in the act of the official inauguration of the new headquarters of this association.

Despite the gray and windy day, local and regional politicians, members of the Murcia Mental Health Federation, the Spanish Committee of Representatives of People with Disabilities (CERMI), ONCE, collaborators from different areas of our society, family members and associates appointment in the new facilities to be part of an emotional and important moment of this association.

Attendees toured the new facilities, located in Rambla del Charco No. 4, where the users themselves explained the different activities in which they work every day as a fundamental part of their recovery process: environmental workshops, volunteer work of the associates, rehabilitation psychosocial, sport, pre-work practices and awareness programs for the general population, among others.

After the visit, there was time for an emotional speech by the President of AFEMAC, Ms. Pilar Morales Gálvez, who sincerely thanked the attendees for the support provided over the 12 years since the beginning of the Association.

He made special mention of Fundación ONCE since the new day center is a reality, in large part, thanks to his collaboration.

The President of the Spanish Committee of Representatives of Persons with Disabilities, Mr. Luis Cayo Pérez Bueno, spoke on “social emergency†in relation to mental health problems, which are the leading cause of disability in Spain.

The Mayor of Águilas, Ms. Mª Carmen Moreno Pérez reiterated her support for the work that is being done in the Association year after year and highlighted the level of participation of its members in the social life of Aguila.

The Vice President of the Region and Counselor for Women, Equality, LGTBI, Families and Social Policy, Ms. Isabel Franco Sánchez stressed the importance of improving care and services for people with mental illness problems.

Before inaugurating the new headquarters, the President of the Regional Assembly of the Region of Murcia, Mr. Alberto Castillo Baños, told about his recent experience of approaching the associative movement of Mental Health through his Regional Federation, which had such an impact it caused him and his commitment to continue collaborating on everything that is tea in his hand.

Finally, attendees shared a snack served by the catering service of the special employment center "MEMPLEO" of the Mental Health Association of Molina de Segura.
