The mayor of Equality is committed to education as the main tool to fight against sexist violence (25/11/2019)

This morning the Plaza of Spain was dyed purple, a color that symbolizes the fight against sexist violence, to commemorate the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Under the slogan "Do you need help? Count on all", about a hundred people who have shown their rejection and their condemnation of any form of violence against women have gathered.

The day has begun with the action "No to sexist violence";

a campaign consisting of the placement of three broken heart-shaped traffic signs whose objective is to sensitize the population and raise public awareness about the need to eradicate gender violence.

It is for this reason that an element such as a traffic signal has been chosen, which makes it easier to launch the message in a visual way.

In addition, when placed in public places they become very suitable elements to manifest an active position against gender violence.

The action has been completed with the installation of some plates with this same legend in the different municipal buildings and with the distribution of stickers so that they can be placed in the establishments that want it.

Then the institutional manifesto has been read, as well as the intervention of the mayor of Equality of the City of Águilas, Elena Casado, who has strongly condemned a scourge- said- "that not only has as victims the women but also his sons and daughters. "

During his speech, the mayor has demanded firmness in the face of sexist violence while ensuring that "to combat this scourge there are only three ways: education, education and more education."

The poets Dolores Ibarra and Laura Hernández also wanted to join this act, who have condemned this terrible social scourge with their verses.

The activities will continue tomorrow Tuesday 26 at 8 pm at the Francisco Rabal House of Culture;

It will be the association of Housewives, Consumers and Users Virgen de los Dolores in charge of bringing to the tables the function "Sketch against gender violence".

The theatrical performances will continue on Wednesday 27, at the same time, with the staging of "Life in a tissue" of the Phoenix Society workshop, under the direction of Adela Mendiola.

For the students of Secondary School, the IX Short contest with Violence will be held, whose winning piece will be screened on Thursday 28 at 6 pm at the Francisco Rabal House of Culture, coinciding with the presentation of the winning work of the Second Contest of Illustrations for the Poster announcing the Short Competition with Violence 2020.

On Saturday 30 will be the Women's Group of the Evangelical Baptist Church of Águilas which joins the events scheduled with the talk on gender violence by Margarita Llabrés, master in gender violence, theologian and missionary.
