The PP asks the City Council to encourage the selective collection of containers on urban beaches to prevent plastics from reaching the sea (26/07/2019)

In order to raise public awareness about the serious problem caused by plastics and microplastics that are dumped into the sea, the Popular Municipal Group of Eagles will propose in the ordinary plenary session corresponding to this month of July, that the City Council promote the selective collection of Packaging on the urban beaches of the town, Levante and Poniente.

In addition, it will be requested that they be placed, as a complement to the recycling containers that already exist on these beaches with the distinctive 'Blue Flag', striking structures and of special design, that invite and raise awareness about the importance of avoiding waste to the sea , especially plastics.

Likewise, the motion includes that the waste collected in these or other beaches can be reused for future use, making the City of Águilas an example of administration committed to the sea.

The spokeswoman for the Popular Group, Eva Reverte, explained that "it is important to be aware of the amount of single-use objects that we use in our daily lives and that later, due to our uncivil behavior, they end up at sea. These wastes are ingested by birds, fish and marine mammals, and it is estimated that more than 100,000 marine mammals die each year from the containers we leave to reach the sea. "

For this reason, as explained by the popular, from public administrations campaigns should be carried out so that people become aware of this problem and promote even more selective collection, while raising public awareness about cleanliness on the beaches.
