The Marmara announces that the works of the Eagles-Guadalentín desalination plant completed in the first quarter of 2009 (02/10/2008)

The director general of the state-owned waters of the Mediterranean Basin, Acuamed, Adrian Baltanás, today met with the Mayor of Aguilas, Juan Ramírez Soto, as well as municipal representatives from several villages in the area to Eagles to inform on the progress of the works of the Eagles-Guadalentín desalination.

These advances allow the works to advance the desalination plant, completed in two-thirds will be completed in the first quarter of 2009.

The Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine has invested 280 million euros through Acuamed, construction of the plant.

Among other issues, Adrian Baltanás announced the decision of the Department of Sustainability of the Coast and Sea by reporting favorably on the reservation of public land for maritime-terrestrial plant.

This report is favorable mandatory step for the Government of Murcia, through the Ministry of Agriculture and Water, to give the green light to the discharge permit for the plant.

Accordingly, the decision of the Department of Sustainability of the Coast and Sea represents an important step in obtaining the necessary permits for the rapid commissioning of the desalination plant as completed works.

The administrative procedures will be completed the next addition to approval by the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs, to amend the Environmental Impact Statement, adapted to the expansion of plant production, reduced from 60 to 70 cubic hectometres

The construction of this infrastructure is already advanced in its two-thirds, so it is estimated that both the plant facilities and distribution network and the raft of regulation for the High Guadalentín be completed in the first quarter of 2009.

HM3 57 AND 13 FOR IRRIGATION SUPPLY

The Eagles-Guadalentín desalination is an action contained in Law 11/2005 of 22 June.

Action has been declared a general interest and urgent priority, assigned to the state-owned waters of the Mediterranean Basin, Acuamed, the Ministry of Environment and Rural and Marine Affairs.

The works, along with the operation and maintenance for 15 years, were awarded to the consortium Ferrovial Agroman, Sacyr-Cadagua Sadyt and amounting to 239 million euros, rising to some 280 million euros to expand annual production capacity of 60 to 70 hectometres.

Of these, 57 are for irrigation and 13 for urban supply.

Specifically, this plant will receive water from irrigation communities of Aguilas, Lorca and Puerto Lumbreras, Murcia, and Pulpí in Almeria.

This Andalusian village also receive 3 hectometres for urban water supply, while the rest intended to supply will go into the Commonwealth of Taibilla Channel, which will distribute the resource to supply urban populations Eagles and High Guadalentín.

The construction of this plant is designed with criteria of economic, environmental and social, so that water provides guaranteed rain or shine, and helps reduce the overexploitation of groundwater resources.
