In the morning Monday, November 4, a sailboat abandoned at the Port of Eagles, about 20 meters long and the name Penelope, began to sink by the tie-in point which is moored quite some time.
According to the mayor of Eagle, Bartolome Hernandez, who traveled to the scene by the Security council, Francisco Clemente, the rapid action of the emergency services prevented the sinking of the ship and the uncontrolled dumping of fuel still remained inside.
Hernandez said the damage could have been higher, but for the effective performance of emergency bodies quickly went to the port area: Fire, Red Cross, Local Police, Civil Guard and 112 staff and Civil Protection, among others .
Although most of the fuel of the boat was removed for some time, the mayor indicated that the tanks are always small residues, so Red Cross members installed a containment barrier to prevent any possible oil slick would get to the beach area.
