The City Council is launching a novel water-saving irrigation system controlled by Wi-Fi (20/11/2017)

Water is a scarce and important asset in our society, that is why from the City Council of Águilas, in coordination with the concessionaire company STV Gestión, a new irrigation saving and control system has been launched.

Specifically, receivers have been installed that allow a computer, a mobile phone, a tablet or any wireless device to control and access the irrigation system without being in person.

For now, given the historical character of the place and its ficus monumental character, has been launched in the Plaza de España.

What advantages does this system offer?

The first and most important is the saving of water, it is estimated that around 30% less consumption than a garden without this modern service.

But there is more, for example it will be possible to control and decide what amount of water is used and when without having to be in person in the place through a wifi system.

A service, to which both the concessionaire company STV Gestión and the town hall will have access, which allows to avoid an inadequate consumption.

How?

The system is connected to a weather station and allows if, for example, it detects that it is raining, the water ceases its irrigation, with the consequent saving.

It is also very useful when there is a possible breakdown or breakage, at that moment the system sends a warning to the technicians so they can repair it and cut the water.

The meteorological station to which it is permanently connected also allows us to detect sudden changes in the wind, which allows not only a greater water saving but an adaptation of the species to the environment and a longer duration of these.

Also, periodically, a complete and exhaustive report is made to know what days have been watered, what amount of water, what days the wind has blown etc ... to always know the conditions to which the plants and vegetation of the area have been subjected.

It is, in short, one more bet of the consistory to continue caring for and improving the different green areas of the municipality while at the same time respecting and taking care of the ecosystem more.
