Ãguilas joins the Life Adaptate project to adapt to climate change (20/11/2017)

Last week took place, at the headquarters of the Institute of Development of the Region of Murcia, the first meeting of the Life Adaptate Program, adaptation to climate change, which the City of Águilas is a partner, with the participation of the Councilor for Tourism, Local Development and Training, Ginés Desiderio Navarro, as well as the Development Technician, Diego Martínez and one of the municipal engineers, Luis Pan.

In the meeting, coordinated by the INFO, participated, besides the City Council of Águilas, the City Councils of Cartagena and Lorca, the Municipal Chambers of Mértola and Alfândega da Fé, of Portugal and the Municipality of Smiltene (Smiltenes Novads), of Latvia, as well as the specialized consultants Eurovértice (Spain), Ekodoma (Latvia) and IrRadiare (Portugal), and staff of the Service for the Promotion of the Environment and Climate Change of the OISMA of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Environment.

The Life Adaptate Program includes 6 pilot actions to adapt to climate change, one of which will be developed in Águilas with the creation of a green area, whose irrigation will be carried out with purified water, taking place the impulsion and distribution of the same by means of energy photovoltaic

It also includes the commitment of the participating municipalities to carry out the measures of the Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy, specifically the preparation and implementation of a Plan of Action for Climate and Sustainable Energy (PACES) that addresses both the mitigation such as adaptation to climate before 2030. The main objective of Life Adaptate is to contribute to the improvement of policies and legislation related to mitigation and adaptation to climate change in the European Union.

In particular, the process of designing and implementing local adaptation policies and designing specific actions in each municipality, addressing the challenges that arise in each municipality.

The Life Adaptate Program includes measures to transfer procedures, results and good practices to other municipalities of the European Union, in order to create a network of localities and actions that contribute to mitigation and adaptation to Climate Change.

During the year 2018 coordination and follow-up meetings will be held in Smiltene, in May, and in Águilas, in November.
