Aquiline cyclists "bomb" the Cuesta de Gos against deforestation (30/10/2017)

Nearly a hundred cyclists participated yesterday in an act of reforestation in the area of the Cuesta de Gos;

an action included in the Forests for Eagles Project, developed by the Department of the Environment of Águilas City Council.

Specifically, cyclists have launched "seed bombs";

a pioneering action in Spain, launched last year by the local council, using the technique of nendo-dango and aimed to repopulate one of the few forest areas of our town that in recent years has begun to get lost due to the drought and the plague of processionary and barrenillo.

The event was attended by the councilors of Environment and Tourism, Isabel María Torrente and Ginés Desiderio Navarro, who explained that these "bombs", which have been launched in the town since last year, have been developed by users of the Center Occupational Urci, Afemac, Alzheimer, Center for Women, scouts and more than 3,500 schoolchildren from all schools in the town.

The materials that compose them (clay, peat and seeds of stone pine, Aleppo pine, carob and hackberry) prevent their dehydration while protecting them from birds and insects.

The clay will remain compact while the environment is dry but at the moment when the rain falls on the pumps it will release the seed allowing its germination.
