The Plaza of Spain became yesterday the scene of the events programmed from the Department of Culture on the occasion of the Day of Esparto;
A day that serves to pay homage to the one who for many years was one of the most important sectors of the local economy and to avoid, at the same time, that the espartera tradition disappears.
For more than two hours the numerous spectators who approached until the Glorieta could enjoy the spectacle of seeing live work to the esparteros craftsmen that realized an exhibition of the work of spinning with the traditional wheel.
Aguileños and visitors were surprised with the mastery and skill of the professional spinners.
Another of the exhibitions that concentrated the eyes of all the attendees was the one dedicated to the costumes of the Mussonas of the Carnival, elaborated almost for the most part with esparto.
The day concluded with the recognition and homage to the people linked to the esparto that the mayor of Aguilas, Mari Carmen Moreno;
The mayor of Culture, Lucía Hernández;
And the coordinator of the events, Juan Hernández, handed out recognition plaques.
Thus were recognized Bartolomé Román and Pascal Janin.
Likewise, coinciding with the celebration of the Day of Esparto, the Second National Encounter on the Culture of Esparto took place in the House of Culture Francisco Rabal in which different presentations were given.
The activities will continue on the 8th and 9th next to the pergola of La Colonia, where the screening "Seda and Esparto in the Region of Murcia" will be held with two daily passes at 9pm and 11pm;
As well as with the exhibition Usefull Esparto and photographs of Mussonas that can be visited from 19.30 to 22 hours in the Aula de Cultura de Cajamurcia until next August 10th.
