The two marinas of Águilas get blue flags this year (03/08/2017)

The Nautical Club and the marina Juan Montiel de guilas have obtained blue flags this year that value four aspects of the infrastructure: information and environmental education;

Environmental management and safety;

Services and facilities, and quality of bathing water.

The General Director of Transport, Coast and Ports, Jos Ramn Dez de Revenga, visited today the two port facilities, where flags were raised and highlighted the quality of both infrastructures.

"We want to promote the tourist quality of our ports, and that is why the recent amendment of the Ports Law, approved in February this year, plans to reduce the fee by up to 35 percent," said Jos Ramn Diez de Revenga. One of the criteria that will be used to obtain a reduction of the canon is to be in possession of a blue flag.

The blue flag is awarded by an international jury chaired by the Environmental Education Foundation (FEE), an international non-profit organization that currently groups 74 partners from 64 countries in Europe, South and North America, Africa, Asia and Oceania.

The FEE promotes environmental education in each country and joins efforts at the international level through programs such as Blue Flag, Eco-Schools or Green Key, among others.

This year, 100 blue flags have been awarded to the marinas on the Spanish coast, of which the Region of Murcia has obtained two flags, those cited from the marina Juan Montiel and the Club Nautico de Aguilas.

Blue flags in ports

The director explained that to obtain blue flags in the ports it is valued that there is environmental information available to the users of the port on the marine areas and sensitive natural areas nearby and an environmental code of conduct that must be exposed in the port.

In addition, information on the Blue Flag Program and / or the criteria for the concession of blue flag marinas must be provided in its facilities and it must also offer at least three activities in environmental education.

"To qualify for the blue flag concession, an environmental management committee should be set up to design and implement an environmental policy and plan at the marina, which should include references to water, waste and energy, health and safety , As well as the use of organic products when they are available, "explained Jos Ramn Dez de Revenga, who added that it is also necessary to carry out an environmental audit of its facilities on a regular basis.

In addition, the marina must have facilities for the selective collection of waste, such as glass, packaging, paper and cardboard and organic matter, among others, and devices for collecting sewage from ships.

The promotion of sustainable transport, water quality (without oils, garbage, waste water or any other type of pollutants) is also valued, and adequate and well-marked rescue and first aid and firefighting equipment are required. .
