Art as a way to claim International Women's Day (06/03/2017)

Art as a form of vindication will be the central axis of the program of events designed by the Department of Equality on the occasion of the next celebration of March 8, International Women's Day.

The program, which will start tomorrow and will last until March 24, was presented this morning by the mayor of Equality, Isabel Maria Torrente, and the technician of the Municipal Center for Women, Antonia Reche.

Among the activities proposed, the exhibition "Making way for a world 50-50", which can be visited from tomorrow until March 17 at the Casa de Cultura Francisco Rabal, stands out.

"The sample," assured Torrente, "runs a tour of all the activities developed from the Center for Women since it opened its doors."

Already on day 8, the program's central day, an information desk will be installed from 11 am to 1 pm in the Plaza de España.

That same day at 11 will take place the performance of the batucada that will precede the reading of the institutional manifesto (12 hours in front of the Town Hall).

In the afternoon, at 19 hours, the concentration and reading of the manifesto "Paro Internacional de Mujeres" will be held.

During this same day, the play "Las sin sombrero" will be performed by the company Edmundo Chacour, who will appear on the scene at 8 pm at the Casa de Cultura Francisco Rabal.

On Friday the 10th scheduled events will be the responsibility of the Association of Housewives, Consumers and Users, in charge of organizing the first edition of the Women's Day Awards.

The event will take place in the restaurant El Tiburón in the course of a meal open to the public after registration and reservation (18 euros).

The last activity of the program will take place on Friday, March 24 with the International Festival of Poetry and Art 7 ° Cry of Women under the title "A cry of freedom for all the girls of the world".

Torrente emphasized that this programming "seeks not only to celebrate that day, but to claim the role of women throughout history and especially to make it visible."
