The Civil Guard investigates a neighbor of Eagles for assaulting a dog to death (15/11/2016)

The Civil Guard of the Region of Murcia, thanks to the public collaboration, has developed an investigation in Aguilas aimed at clarifying some facts related to the aggression committed against a dog that caused the death, which has been settled by the investigation of a neighbor Of the locality to which he has been instructed as an alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of domestic animals (animal abuse).

The investigation began when some citizens alerted the Nature Protection Service (SEPRONA) of the Benemérita of an aggression committed against a dog in the locality of Eagles that, due to the injuries suffered, finally died.

The first investigations practiced by the agents allowed to find out that the animal, a mestizo dog of small size, had escaped of the house of its owners and had acceded to an establishment next to the previous one.

Presumably, the owner of the business grabbed the dog and expelled him from the establishment by blows leaving him lying in the middle of the street.

The members of an ambulance that circulated in the area detected the badly injured dog on the road and, together with some neighbors, they moved him to a veterinary center where, despite being assisted, it was not possible to keep him alive, finally dying due to Internal injuries caused by the blows received.

Thanks to the citizen collaboration and the evidence obtained during the investigation, the agents were able to identify the alleged attacker, who has been instructed as an alleged perpetrator of a crime related to the protection of flora, fauna and domestic animals (animal abuse).

The Moroccan and 43-year-old investigated and the investigations have been made available to the Court of Instruction of Lorca (Murcia).

The crime of animal abuse

The crime related to the protection of domestic animals (animal abuse) is included in the recent reform of the Penal Code, which defines it as unjustifiably mistreating animals, by any means or procedure, causing injuries that seriously Health or death is punishable by sentences of three to eighteen months imprisonment and special disqualification from one to four years for the exercise of profession, trade or commerce that relates to animals and to the possession of animals.

Animal maltreatment data by 2015 at the national level

Among the offenses and offenses detected in 2015 throughout Spain we must review the 450 dogs that were abandoned;

With regard to previous years, it should be noted that there has been an increase in cases of abuse or neglect of known domestic animals (294 cases in 2014).

This increase in crime would be motivated by increased citizen awareness of the problem of animal abuse that has led the population to report these facts to the competent authorities, as well as the reform of the Criminal Code of 2015.
