The XXV Duathlon Carnavales de Ãguilas crowns Antonio Benito and María Varo (24/02/2019)

The city of Águilas hosted on Sunday morning, the first qualifier for the Spanish Duathlon Elite Championship to be held in Soria on April 13 and 14.

Antonio Benito, of the Cidade de Lugo Fluvial, and María Varo, of the Triathlon Clavería de Móstoles, won in this 25th Duathlon Carnival of Eagles that is part of the Duathlon Regional League and is organized by the Sports Board of the town together to the Triathlon Federation of the Region of Murcia.

Seventeen Murcian duathletes, nine in the men's category and eight in the women's category, were on the starting grid looking for one of the 15 places for the Spanish Championship.

Finally, Guillaume Le Mouhaer, of the Triathlon Eagle Primaflor Club, was the only Murcian who achieved the male elite classification.

As for Women's Elite, Soledad Martínez, from the Primaflor Eagle Triathlon Club;

Miriam Álvarez, of the Pina Bicicletas Fundación Azierta-Tritoledo;

Natalia Hidalgo, from the Cidade de Lugo Fluvial;

Marta Belmonte, from Bitec Tri Impulso;

and Irene Lucas, from Industrias Teq Triathlon Archena

The podium of the elite competition was formed by Antonio Benito, with 55 minutes and 36 seconds, Javier Martín, of the Marlins Triathlon Madrid, with a time of 55 minutes and 58 seconds, and Andrés Cendan, of the Cidade de Lugo Fluvial, who stopped the I clock in 56 minutes and 10 seconds.

The women's podium was tighter with María Varo stopping the clock in 1 hour, 5 minutes and 46 seconds.

Twenty seconds later, came the second and third classified playing the sprint ending second Raquel Arostegui (1h06'06 ''), Diablillos de Rivas, and Ana Mariblanca, Triathlon Las Rozas, third (1h06'07 '').

The classification by masculine clubs was led by the Montilla Cordoba Triathlon occupying the second place the murcia club or of the CT Águilas Primaflor remaining the third position the Triathlon Albacete.

In the female, they led the same Primaflor Eagle, followed by CEA Betera and Industrias Teq Triathlon Archena that occupied the third place.

Age and Minor Groups

In addition to the elite event, competitions were held in Age Groups and in Minors.

Arturo Lucas, from Bitec Tri Impulso, and Sonia Gómez from the Murcia Unidata Triathlon Club were the winners in Age Groups.

Lucas, with a time of 59 minutes and 21 seconds, led the race in which Fulgencio Angosto, of the Mandarache Cartagena Athletics (59:58) and Ángel Moratalla, of the ZO Sport (1:00:21) occupied the second and third places , respectively.

In female, Gómez scored a time of 1 hour, 13 minutes and 9 seconds.

After her came the duatletes of Industrias Teq Triathlon Archena, Belén González and Cristina Mayol, entering together to the finish line (1h13'28 '').

In the categories of Minors, Julia Marín (CT Lorca) and Alejandro López (EDM Caravaca de la Cruz) won in Alevín;

Nieves Navarro (Tritones Murcia Sport Club) and Pablo León (EDM Caravaca), in Children;

and Isabel Navarro (CT Arabí Yecla Catlike) and Jesús Montoya (CT Caravaca) in Cadete
